RFID: California Identity Information Protection Act Still Alive
Thanks to CA Senator Joe Simitian, SB 682 is on the CA assembly agenda for early in 2006. Simitian partnered with Assemblywoman Judy Chu to reassign the stalled California Identity Information Protection Act as SB 768 (previously Simitian's aquacultural bill).
Excerpt from SB 768: "This bill would enact the Identity Information Protection Act of 2005. The act would require identification documents, except as specified, that are created, mandated, purchased, or issued by various public entities that use radio waves to broadcast personal information, or to enable personal information to be read remotely, to meet specified requirements."
Kudos to Simitian for his dedication to informed consent, and to Chu for her willingness to act on behalf of the public interest.
